I grew up in the Louisiana Cajun country. As a young adult, I visited Bandera, Texas just prior to moving to my new home in San Antonio. This was all it took for me to fall in love with the Texas hill county. I later moved to Houston where I spent years in sales and management in both the industrial and electronic markets. Houston taught me a lot about what it means to be a Texan and I called it home for 20 years. However, I always longed to return to the hill country. In the mid 90s, my husband and I purchased our first piece of the Texas hill country just outside of Austin where we planned to retire. The thought of living in the hill country soon got the best of us and we left our jobs in the big city to move there and build our new home. The company I was working for was sold shortly after our relocation and I opted out of the new organization. I figured it was time to do something I really wanted to do. I have always been artistic and enjoyed working with my hands. I heard about a program at the community college where I could study to be a metal artist. Metal was a new medium for me and I signed up immediately. I soon found myself drawing again, studying art, metal sculpture, blacksmithing and learning to become a welder and metal worker. A few years later, I graduated with academic excellence and became the second person to attain the full degree since the program was initiated more than 10 years prior.
Because of my love for the hill country, Hill Country Metals would naturally become the name for my studio. Ive been producing custom works since 2000. These works have included items such as small pieces of jewelry, garden art, custom wall hangings for the home and office, outdoor signs and yes, even some regular welding projects. Being a certified welder enables me to do functional work (such as welding my neighbors tractor) as well as creating artistic metal compositions, which helps to satisfy my insatiable desire to be creative. I am a member of the
Artist Blacksmiths Association of North America - ABANA,
Texas Society Of Sculptors - TSOS, and the
American Welding Society - AWS I hope you will browse my web pages to view information on some of my commissions and products. Please feel free to contact me for any custom works you may have in mind.
